Spray foam insulation comes in two primary types. Open-cell spray foam features an R-value of 3 per inch and has a porous structure, requiring greater thickness but providing excellent sound dampening properties. Closed-cell spray foam offers a higher R-value per inch, features a dense composition, and functions as both an air seal and vapor barrier.
